The visitors of an unusual exhibition fair in Dushanbe could see fresh baked goods, sweets and hand-crafted items. All of the items displayed were created by people with health disabilities. The exhibition was organized by the League of Women with Disabilities “Ishtirok” under the framework of the “Partnership Program” between “Abilis” Foundation in Tajikistan.
All visitors could also buy the items on display. The assortment was so wide, it was difficult to choose: home grown fresh vegetables, baking, and handmade crafts. The produce and crafts were presented through tens of organizations working with disabled people, who came from all parts of the country.
It was such a pleasure to see them all together. So many wonderful people came together. Thank you very much to “Abilis” Foundation for the support, and for helping ensure that the dreams of people like us come true” – shared Anora, one of the exhibition participants.
The event to support the rights and opportunities for people with disabilities was financed by “Abilis” Foundation. It was established in 1998 in Finland by people with disabilities.
The main purpose of this event was to increase awareness of society about disabilities and to remove stereotypes towards the people with disabilities in Tajikistan,” noted Saida Inoyatova, the Chairwoman of Women with Disabilities League.
In addition to public organizations, representatives of the state and international institutions also took part in the exhibition. The organizers are sure that with help of such events, people with disabilities will become more self-confident and will integrate sooner into society.
